Greetings, greetings, greetings everyone! Tonight will be the last poetry corner for the year 2014. Nearing us is 2015, another year of us gaining wisdom (well hopefully) while leaving behind old thoughts, relationships, and ideas that completed that time of life in a working circle of progression.
Or regression, depending on the person I suppose..
Some of us are leaving behind love ones who did not make to the new year. Our hearts are still heavy as in selfish meaning, we look at our own mortality in questioning reason of them leaving. You think from time to time of a life that was dear to you is not here physically. But instead is with us spiritually and mentally. Reflection with a purpose is what helps develop life planning. The mixture of the good and the bad makes us stronger?
Wiser?
Or bitter?
Nah, in the words of Maya Angelou “You can be angry, but never bitter!” This wise quote needs to find a place in any facets of our lives that wrestles with adversity. Such kind words from a great poet who is now with our love ones in another realm of existence.
In closing I would like to thank all the poets who allowed me to feature their great works on each poetry corner this year. We reach 50 posts and are continuing to reach another 50. I am very happy that you viewers, lovers of poetry and creative writers visited these respective poets’ blogs. The responses and support of all that was said made doing every edition of the corner—fun!
So the next time you will see the poetry corner it will be 2015. The last poem for this year is from the late great Maya Angelou called—–
I note the obvious differences
in the human family.
Some of us are serious,
some thrive on comedy.
Some declare their lives are lived
as true profundity,
and others claim they really live
the real reality.
The variety of our skin tones
can confuse, bemuse, delight,
brown and pink and beige and purple,
tan and blue and white.
I’ve sailed upon the seven seas
and stopped in every land,
I’ve seen the wonders of the world
not yet one common man.
I know ten thousand women
called Jane and Mary Jane,
but I’ve not seen any two
who really were the same.
Mirror twins are different
although their features jibe,
and lovers think quite different thoughts
while lying side by side.
We love and lose in China,
we weep on England’s moors,
and laugh and moan in Guinea,
and thrive on Spanish shores.
We seek success in Finland,
are born and die in Maine.
In minor ways we differ,
in major we’re the same.
I note the obvious differences
between each sort and type,
but we are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.
We are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.

I misread that skin tone line as “tartan blue and white”, which would have been intriguing. Depends which tartan – Macmillan or Campbell, say?
Then I thought – blue skin? I need to travel more.

I know right, lol. Your travels would be by way of Capt. Picard and the starship Enterprise.

Maya Angelou was so wise and so real, she never gave people suggestions that cant be followed by us, the normal human beings who cant be or dont want to be saints!
I too agree with her, I am sometimes angry but never bitter, sometimes I am as livid as a volcano but not bitter!
