Friday Night Poetry Corner #164–cutting greens

Hey everyone!  Last night I was at the movies checking out Black Panther and GOOD GRIEF IT WAS AMAZING.  The movie hit on many levels and transcended a comic book movie!!

So that is why I am late with this poetry corner, forgive me..

lucille clifton is a great poet who i personally love.  her style of writing is unique and quite brilliant and her works grow with time and will continue to do so.   here is her joint called “cutting greens.”  Enjoy and thanks again for visiting..

cutting greens

curling them around
i hold their bodies in obscene embrace
thinking of everything but kinship.
collards and kale
strain against each strange other
away from my kissmaking hand and
the iron bedpot.
the pot is black,
the cutting board is black,
my hand,
and just for a minute
the greens roll black under the knife,
and the kitchen twists dark on its spine
and I taste in my natural appetite
the bond of live things everywhere.

  1. You know, dude, it took me the longest time to figure out how to get notifications about your posts, and even now I think they’re not landing in my box way more than they are…

Anyway, you are now the (hopefully!) pleased and proud recipient of a Token of Humanity.

Not only does yours foolie find this token an unusually beautiful gesture of recognition in a community always willing to extend them, but — most unusually! — no action is required or requested of its happy receiver unless and until the inspiration strikes to pass it along!

    Here’s your link:

Congratulations and, from all of us your readers, thank you.
